Check your Work Permit status & validity
Two free, official ways to check your own pass — the SGWorkPass app and MOM's website — and what to look for before it expires or before a transfer.
Check your Work Permit status & validity
You do not need to ask your employer or your agent to find out if your Work Permit is valid. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) gives every pass holder two free, official ways to check their own pass — anytime, in your own language. This guide explains both, what information they show you, and why it is worth checking regularly, especially before your pass is due to expire or before you transfer to a new employer.
Why check your own Work Permit status
Your Work Permit is what allows you to legally live and work in Singapore. Checking it yourself means you always know:
- Whether your pass is currently valid, and its exact expiry date.
- The employer and occupation MOM has on record for you.
- For Work Permit holders, the monthly salary details recorded with MOM.
- Whether a new application (renewal or transfer) is being processed.
Knowing this early gives you time to raise a question with your employer or MOM before a small problem — like an expiring pass — becomes a bigger one.
Way 1 — MOM's online check (no login, no app)
Go to service2.mom.gov.sg/workpass/enquiry on any phone or computer browser. You will be asked for:
- Your FIN (Foreign Identification Number) or passport/travel document number.
- Your date of birth.
No Singpass account and no login is needed — this is a public check. The service is available 24 hours a day and shows results in English, Bengali, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. You can save or print your result as a PDF, which is timestamped. If you are a Work Permit holder and want to check your recorded salary details, you will also need the Date of Application (DOA) shown on your In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter.
Way 2 — The SGWorkPass app
SGWorkPass is MOM's own official mobile app, free on the Apple App Store, Google Play and Huawei AppGallery. It is available in 10 languages, including Bengali, Burmese, English, Malay, Mandarin, Tamil, Thai and Vietnamese.
To set it up, you log in once with your own Singpass account. After that, the app lets you:
- View your digital work pass and its validity, without needing to scan a physical card.
- Check your monthly salary details on record with MOM (Work Permit holders).
- Receive official notifications from MOM.
Your employer, agent or anyone checking your pass (for example, at a work site) can also verify it instantly by scanning the QR code on your card or in the app — they do not need your Singpass details to do this.
- MOM online (service2.mom.gov.sg): quick one-time check, FIN/passport + date of birth only, no login needed.
- SGWorkPass app: set up once with Singpass, then view your own pass, salary and notifications anytime on your phone.
Check before an expiry or a transfer
It is worth checking your Work Permit status at these times in particular:
- A few weeks before it expires — so you and your employer have time to sort out a renewal, and you are not caught by surprise.
- Before agreeing to a transfer to a new employer — confirm your current pass is still valid, and check the details again once the new pass is issued.
- After any change at work — such as a new employer, new job scope, or a break in employment — to confirm MOM's records match what you were told.

If something looks wrong
If the check shows your pass as not valid, expired, or with details that do not match what you expect, stay calm — there may be a simple reason, such as a renewal that is still being processed. First, ask your employer or agent to explain. Your passport should never be held by your employer or agent without a lawful reason, and you are entitled to a clear answer about your own pass status. If you cannot get a clear answer, or you believe something is wrong, contact MOM or the Migrant Workers' Centre using the numbers below.
Common questions
Do I need Singpass to check my Work Permit status?
No. MOM's online check needs only your FIN (or passport number) and date of birth — no login or Singpass account required. Singpass is only needed to set up the SGWorkPass app on your own phone.
Can my employer stop me from checking my own pass?
No. This is a free, public check direct with MOM. Your employer or agent does not need to be involved, and cannot block you from checking your own pass status.
What if my pass shows as not valid or the details look wrong?
Ask your employer or agent first — there may be a simple explanation, such as a renewal in progress. If it is not resolved, call MOM at 6438 5122 or the Migrant Workers' Centre 24-hour helpline at 6536 2692.
